Hey Sunshine,
Counting sheep not working for you? Lying in the bed staring at the ceiling wishing that you can go to sleep?
I’ve been there countless nights. I lay down to go to sleep and my brain will just not turn off. I’ve tried EVERYTHING and have come up with my 3 go-to tips for a great night of sleep.
1. Legs up the wall
This is one of my favorite yoga poses for calming the nerves to help you prep for bedtime.
Setup
Grab a blanket or pillow to place under your sacrum
Sit next to the wall with your right hip next to wall
On the exhale, swing your legs onto the wall and release the shoulder and head down to the floor
Close your eyes and let your arms rest beside your body with your palms facing up
Remain in the pose for 5-15 minutes
2. 4-7-8 Breathing
This is a simple and quick breathing exercise that anyone can do. This exercise acts like a tranquilizer getting stronger the more you practice it.
Setup
Exhale completely out of your mouth making an audible “whoosh” sound
Close your mouth and inhale through your nose for a mental count of 4
Hold your breath in for a count of 7
Exhale out of your mouth for a count of 8 making the '“whoosh’ sound
This is one complete round
Repeat 4 times
3. Sleeping “Powder”
If you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night and can’t fall back to sleep, this DIY recipe is for you. I know it might seem strange, but there is science to back it up.
Setup
1-part sea salt and 1-part sugar mixed together
Place a pinch of the “powder” under the tongue and let it dissolve
Return to sleep
I hope these tips/tricks work as well for you as they do for me. Let me know if you try them out and how it goes. Until next time💙
Stay Awesome
